Reviews:
If a picture is indeed worth a thousand words, this review would be just a selfie of yours truly looking sad and confused as the credits for "Words and Pictures" played in the background. Alas, I work in a medium driven by words, so to equal that picture, I’ve got 950 words to go.
Equating words and images is the major plot point of "Words and Pictures." Two high school Honors program teachers oversee a student debate on which is more important, images or the written word. In the process, the teachers fall in love. It sounds like a romantic comedy with a little heft to it, until you discover that one teacher is so repellent that you root against the relationship. Adding insult to injury, the debate itself is given little screen time to develop.
"Words and Pictures" has a helmer I greatly admire, suitably cast actors I enjoy and a plot that sounds intriguing. Rom-coms are the hardest genre to employ without failure, but director Fred Schepisi made two successful ones: "I.Q.," which I liked, and "Roxanne," which I adore. Clive Owen had a roguish charm in "Duplicity" and Juliette Binoche provided what little convincing romance there was to be had in "The English Patient." As a writer whose drawing skill makes Dr. Seuss look like Frank Miller, I was all set to root for words to win the big debate...

Movie Review: JUST MARRIED

"Just Married" is another old movie that my husband and I watched.

Top kids' movies coming out on 2014 List with Reviews - part 2

A smorgasbord of films for kids are on their way in 2014, and Marvel fans in particular will be satisfied with all that is on offer. Disney is bringing us one of the year's most anticipated films, a retelling of the classic Sleeping Beauty tale; there are sequels galore, spooky stories, action, laughs and hours of entertainment to be had so sit down with the kids and take a look at the best movies for the family coming next year.

Maleficent (July 2014)

Angelina Jolie stars as Maleficent in one of next year's most anticipated films. It is a retelling of the classic Sleeping Beauty tale from the perspective of the evil fairy herself. It looks at the events that hardened her heart and drove her to curse Princess Aurora, played by Elle Fanning, and Jolie's own daughter Vivienne Jolie-Pitt as the young Princess.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 (July 2014)

Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and Toothless return to the screen in the sequel to How to Train Your Dragon. The story picks up five years after the duo united the dragons and vikings of the island of Berk, no longer enemies, the island's new favourite sport is dragon racing. While they are busy racing, Hiccup and Toothless are off exploring new worlds when they stumble upon the mysterious Dragon Rider and hundreds of wild dragons living inside a secret ice cave. The pair get caught in the middle of battle and must once again find a way to unite man and dragons. Starring America Ferrera, Kristen Wiig, Gerard Butler, Jonah Hill, and Cate Blanchett.

Another Marvel comic book gets the silver screen treatment with the making of Guardians of the Universe. Starring Vin Diesel, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Benicio Del Toro, John C. Reilly, and Glenn Close.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (August 2014)

Apparently there is nothing "bouncy and fun" about Michael Bay's reworking of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) into an action-packed movie. An alien invasion on Earth accidently spawns the four famous mutated reptilian warriors we know as the Ninja Turtles, who rise up to protect humans from the invasion. Starring William Fichtner as Shredder, Megan Fox as April, and Will Arnett.

The Maze Runner (September 2014)

Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) awakes inside a lift with his memory erased. When the lift doors open he finds himself surrounded by a community of boys living inside a strange stone-walled maze known as the Glade. They soon realise they are trapped inside this maze and must team up with fellow ‘runners’ if they are to stand any chance at escaping their ever-changing prison. Fans of The Hunger Games are expected to enjoy The Maze Runner. The film is similarly set in a post-apocalyptic world and is also based on a successful book series by author James Dashner.

The Boxtrolls (September 2014)

A young orphaned boy raised by underground cave-dwelling trash collectors tries to save his friends from an evil exterminator. Based on the children's novel 'Here Be Monsters' by Alan Snow. Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (October 2014)

That is the story of Alexander, a young boy who wakes up with gum in his hair, undoubtedly a bad start to any day, but things go from bad to worse as the day progresses. Starring Steve Carell, Jennifer Garner and Ed Oxenbould from Puberty Blues as Alexander.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (November 2014)

Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth return for the third instalment of The Hunger Games trilogy but taking their queue from the makers of the Twilight series, the last book has been broken into two films. In part one we pick up where Catching Fire left off, with Katniss freed from the Quarter Quell and on her way to the District 13 - the once thought destroyed district - without Peter, who has been taken captive by the Capitol. Katniss reluctantly becomes the symbol of a mass rebellion against the Capitol but where will they leave it in preparation for part two is anyone's guess.

Night at the Museum 3 (December 2014)

Ben Stiller is back as Larry Daley, Robin Williams returns as Teddy Roosevelt and Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens has signed on to play Sir Lancelot - but not much else is known about the third instalment of the Museum franchise. Watch this space.
